Field Operations

Hedberg and Associates can provide a full range of forestry field services, including, but not limited to:

  • Timber and access reconnaissance, often to update or confirm operational plans. This can vary from the cut block level to drainage or license level.

  • Cut block layout, including ground based, cable yarding, and aerial harvest methods, using appropriate silviculture systems, which may include varying degrees of retention as appropriate or prescribed.

  • Road layout, at the cut block level, for a group of cut blocks, or for a main access system.

  • Site Surveys for major culverts or bridges using total station and GPS survey equipment.

  • Surveying of roads and cut blocks prior to mapping, with spatial control provided by Trimble survey level GPS equipment.

  • Resource assessments including riparian classification, terrain stability, gullies, ecological, archaeological features, visual impact, forest pests, and wildlife habitat features. The results of these assessments will influence the final configuration of roads and cut blocks where appropriate or required, and will be incorporated into the Site Plan for the harvest unit.

  • Road reconstruction and upgrade surveys, with results summarized by risk rating and priority.

  • Timber valuation and the operational cruising required  for Cutting Permit issuance.

  • Post harvest Waste and Residue surveying.
